Obituary

Audrey Stecher

Although Audrey was an only child growing up in the Edmonds Street neighborhood in Rochester, NY, she certainly developed meaningful friendships that lasted a lifetime. One such friend was her childhood neighbor, and "partner in crime", Argie Grader, who was also her maid of honor in her wedding. Audrey met her husband of 68 years at Charlotte Beach when Jack noticed this beautiful, lively girl and he tried to gain her attention by secretly tossing pebbles in her direction until she returned his interest. Audrey made Jack the happiest man alive when she said "yes" to his proposal of marriage in 1956. Wasting no time, these two lovebirds became the proud parents of two daughters, Diane and Karen, within the first three years of marriage.

Audrey's energy and vitality shined in everything she did. She was an avid collector of antiques, including Christmas ornaments and bottles, and was a charter member of the Genesee Valley Bottle Collectors Association. She enjoyed weekly bridge games, genealogy research, and bowling. These hobbies led to many friendships that blossomed over the years.

Audrey and Jack loved their summers at the 1,000 Islands region with friends and family, spending time at the river fishing and boating. Audrey, never being an early riser in general, would have no problem getting up before dawn to get out on the water in her small aluminum boat to drift along for hours fishing for perch and bass.

Audrey loved being a grandmother; supportive, encouraging, and always present for the big moments and milestones. She was generous and thoughtful, with a tradition of surprising her family with a "just because" gift- anything that would add a moment of joy and fun. The love Audrey gave to her husband, family, and friends will live on in their hearts forever.

As she would always express to them, "I love you more!"

Audrey is predeceased by her parents, Erle & Cecelia Adams, and grandson, Alex Jacobs. She is survived by her loving husband, John "Jack" Stecher; children, Diane (Walt Whitaker) Jacobs & Karen (Paul) Wawrzyniak; grandchildren, Kelly (Fernando Bazoberry) Wawrzyniak & Julie (Stephen) Heppner; great-grandson, Oliver Heppner; many dear friends.

Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 9th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. Her memorial service will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, May 10th at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Open Door Mission, 156 Plymouth Ave. Rochester, NY 14608 in Audrey's memory.
