Greece: July 8, 2017, at the age of 81. Predeceased by his wife, Genevieve “Cookie” Vito; son, Chris Vito. He is survived by his son, Bernie (Jackie) Vito; grandsons, Dominic, Marco & Michael Vito; daughter-in-law, Leslie Buchanan; granddaughter, Alexa Rae Vito; brother, Ralph (Toni) Vito; sister, Carol Stafford; companion, Carolyn DeMonte; many nieces & nephews.
Bernard’s visitation will be held 4-7 on Tuesday at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between Rte 390 & Long Pond Rd). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at St. John The Evangelist Church, 2400 West Ridge Rd. Interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be held privately. Donations may be sent to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256 in Bernie’s memory.
Bernie served in the US Army, while he was stationed in Germany he was a member of the Army football team. When he was finished with his service, he then played semi-professional football in Rochester. Bernie also played baseball with his friends from Brown’s Square & Edgerton Park through his mid 40’s. His love of sports continued as he was a referee for Section Five Football for 35 years. He also coached his son Chris in Pop Warner Football & both sons in Soccer with Greece Buccaneers. Spent winters in Las Vegas, he enjoyed golfing there and also while in Rochester. with. Most recently, he went to breakfast at Stoney’s Restaurant with his friends every day. Bernie loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
