Obituary of Philomena J. Pandolf

Philomena J. Pandolf

GREECE – August 24, 2020. Predeceased by her husband Michael Pandolf; parents Vito and Mary (Denarola) Gagliardi; siblings Anthony Gagliardi & Marie Mazzaferro. Philomena is survived by her sister Anna Giordano; children, Michael (Carol Arsenault) Pandolfo, Daniel Pandolf, James Pandolf & Mark (Beth Remis) Pandolf; grandchildren, Michael Pandolfo & David Pandolfo; several nieces, nephews, cousins & dear friends.

Philomena was born in Utica, NY. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Francis de Sales High School.

She married the love of her life, Michael Pandolf on May 7, 1955 in Utica, and they would have celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary this year.

Philomena started her working career at the Utica Cutlery Company followed by The Prudential Insurance Company. It was at The Prudential that a coworker introduced her to her then future husband, Michael. While raising her four sons she volunteered as a religious education teacher at St. Theodore’s Parish in Gates, NY. After raising her four sons she started on a new career in one of her great loves, books, as a clerk in the Greece Public Library. A longtime parishioner and communicant at St. John the Evangelist Church, Philomena was a devoted Catholic, praying daily and attending weekly Mass.

Philomena often spoke about her wonderful childhood and teenage years with her parents and siblings, as well as a large extended family with many aunts, uncles and cousins. She often mentioned the many simple pleasures of life during that time, including going to the movies, restaurants and coffee shops with her siblings and cousins. She loved classical music, reading, and gardening.  She was an excellent cook and her culinary specialty was baked lasagna, which was always served to celebrate holidays and family birthdays.

Philomena will be remembered for her gentle kindness, beautiful smile and for being a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt, and friend to many.
