Richard C. Mathis
Greece: Saturday, February 24, 2018. Predeceased by his wife, Rose Marie Mathis & granddaughter, Kara Lea Hillier. He is survived by his children, Edward J (Patricia Newell) Hillier, Kathleen Marie (Hillier) Cropo, Daryl R. Mathis, Timothy J. Mathis, Karen Rose (Scott) Johnson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn Marchese; several nieces & nephews. Richard served his country with the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict.
Richard’s visitation will be held from 4:00- 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 28th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30AM on Thursday at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mount Read Blvd. Interment will be in White Haven Memorial Park.
Richard attended St. Michael’s school, grades K-8 & also graduated from Edison Tech High School. He also attended the Rochester Institute of Technology where achieved his associates degree. Richard served his country with the United States Coast Guard. He retired from Eastman Kodak after his 32 years of service.
He was a sports enthusiast- Chicago Black Hawks, Green Bay Packers, Boston Red Socks & Notre Dame sports fan. Richard loved his family and in particular his grandchildren. Rose Marie and Richard spent winters in Clearwater, FL and both were members of the Italian American Club.
The family would like to thank Latta Rd East nursing home for the love and care they gave him for the past 5 years.
