In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Unity Health Foundation, 1555 Long Pond Rd, Rochester, NY 14626 in Bette's memory. Born November 25, 1919 and raised in Rochester, NY, Bette's father died when she was a teenager and she and her siblings had to work jobs to help support the family. She graduated from Jefferson High School. Bette started working as a clerk for Bonnybrook Dairy located on Lyell Avenue around the late 1940's. Her brother, Jim Cavoti, helped her get the job from Ralph P. DeStephano. In 1950, Mr. DeStephano purchased Buckman's Dairy on Ridge Road in Greece, NY and Bette was employed there as a bookkeeper. In the late 1950's, when the head bookkeeper retired, Bette was promoted to Office Manager and supervised two employees. As the business expanded in the '60's, Bette was made second in command to Mr. DeStephano. Her job included office management, general store management, and managing all the retail and wholesale milk drivers. as Mr. DeStephano purchased properties along Ridge Road and expanded his single store into a shopping plaza, Bette's duties encompassed real estate management for all the tenants in the plaza. She continued throughout the next several decades being the right hand person to Mr. DeStephano, watching over the businesses as if they were her own. No one messed with Bette! In the late 1990's, Bette decided to retire after over 50 years of dedicated service. After her retirement party, Bette was back to work on a limited basis, still doing some of the jobs she did so well in the past. She was a tremendous asset for the business and a wonderful person to the DeStephano family. When Mr. DeStephano began working to establish a hospital in Greece, Bette supported all of his volunteer efforts in addition to her job responsibilities. She joined the Park Ave. Hospital Auxiliary and organized the Dr. Petri group with new auxiliary members dedicated to raising funds for the new Greece hospital. The Dr. Petri group raised the necessary funds to buy televisions for the patients' rooms and Bette oversaw and coordinated the purchase, installation, and systems required to implement patient television services in Park Ridge Hospital. She was an auxiliary member for over forty years, serving in several offices including president from 1979-1980. On January 7th, 2006, at the age of 87, Bette married Ralph, age 93, at the Genesee Valley Club (it was her first marriage). Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed an elegant dinner and music by Len Hawley. Bette was a loving daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great aunt! She loved to entertain and hosted wonderful parties for friends and neighbors; no party, however, was more elegant and lavish than the holiday dinners she prepared for her family. No expense and no amount of work was too much when it came to family. She will be dearly missed.
