March 22, 2013 at the age of 99. Predeceased by his brothers, Nicholas John. Survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Gloria (Pierleoni) Della Porta, whom he affectionately called "Gabe"; children, Dr. David (Grace) Della Porta Sandra (Charles) Dony; grandchildren, Michael (Kim) Della Porta, Dr. Christina Dony Dr. Matthew (Dr. Serenity) Della Porta; great-granddaughter, Viviana; several nieces, nephews cousins. Gene was the former owner of DiPaolo Baking Co. Inc. a WWII veteran. A sincere thank you to his niece Kathleen for her love and kindness. Donations may be sent to Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210 in Genaro's memory. Genaro was born on September 16, 1913 to Enrico Maria DiPaolo. He graduated from Aquinas Institute and later attended the University of Toronto. These experiences led Gene to value education and he ensured that his family would have every opportunity to learn. Gene knew that learning would be a solid foundation for his children's lives. As he became a young man, WWII resulted in Gene serving in the US Army as a seargent. During this service, he earned the Legion of Merit Award as he was in the European Theatre of the war. Gene would later on excel in the business world as he became the owner of DiPaolo Baking Company. He ran this company with respect and reverence for its purpose in the Rochester Community. While operating the bakery he helped many people with employment opportunities generosity. The most important thing in Gene's live was his family. He loved his wife Gloria with whom he shared 67 years. They met on Charlotte Beach and later were married on December 15, 1945 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. His wedding day was the most important moment in his life. Gene Gloria's family grew with their son David daughter Sandra. This later grew with their grandchildren, Michael, Christina Matthew most recently their great-granddaughter Viviana. Gene's favorite events were his25th Anniversary cruise (Sitmar (Italian line), yearly family picnic at Hamlin Beach State Park fishing trips to the Thousand Islands with his brothers, son nephews. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, attending music concerts with Gloria traveling - in particular to Italy, Hawaii, Vegas Cuba. He loved his grandchildren and cherished time with them. Gene was passionate while teaching them games, once again displaying his concern for his family's well being. Other favorites were the NY Yankees, watching EWTN All in the Family. His family will miss his Easter Bread. Gene had a quick wit and good sense of humor. He was a good storyteller in particular stories featuring his family the past. Always optimistic about the future and marveled at progress that our country has seen. His most important legacy will be the love displayed to his family.
