Additional Information
Sam met the love of his life, Sally, in 1943 while working and attending trade school for auto mechanics in Sicily. They were later married at the church of St. Agatha's, in Caltanissetta, Sicily and were married for 66 years. Sally was always called his better half. While living in Sicily, Sam was a bus driver for the Transportation Department and later became a manager / supervisor. After coming to the United States, he became a machine mechanic at Hickey Freeman and was a perfectionist at his work.
Although he had no children or grandchildren of his own, Sam was like a grandfather to his nieces and nephews. He loved to read Italian newspaper and the crossword puzzle every day and enjoyed watching and listening to Italian soccer games. Sam was also a jokester. Some of his nicknames were Pipino and Abocato. Most of all, he was passionate about gardening and grew tomatoes, basil, broccoli, zucchini and all his favorite vegetables. He also enjoyed making homemade sauce and pesto.
Sam will be greatly missed by all.
