History He is survived by his loving companion Pat Howell; children, Dr. George Vito, Dr. Richard Vito and John Vito; grandson Gavin Vito; brothers, John (Angela) Vito, Frank (Eileen) Vito; brother-in-law Peter Palumbo; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Donations In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to United Spinal Association, 75-20 Astoria Blvd., East Elmhurst, NY 11370 in George's memory. Services George's visitation will be Sunday 1-5 PM at the Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday 10 AM at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Rd. followed by his interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Additional Information George A. Vito was born in Rochester, NY on July 13, 1930. He grew up on the west side of Rochester, graduating from Jefferson High School. He went to Brockport College studying to be a Social Studies teacher. He was active in the track program at both Jefferson and Brockport. His specialty was the high hurdles. He was City champion while a senior at Jefferson. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the Army to serve in Korea. Before going overseas he married Sarah Tabone. Upon his return they had three sons - Richard, George and John. Throughout his life he thrived on socializing with his family, extended family, colleagues and many friends. When he returned he began teaching at Britton Rd. in Greece. Subsequently he taught at Hoover Dr. and Olympia. He began his administrative career as a Vice Principal at Britton Rd. School and Arcadia High School. In 1971, he became the first Principal of Athena Junior High, moving to Olympia High School in 1973 and then Athena High School in 1977, serving until his retirement in 1993. During this time he was instrumental in the formation of the Greece Administrators and Supervisors Association. During the 1980's he studied labor relations through Cornell University and began to prepare for a second career as a negotiator for various School Administrative groups through The School Administrators Association of New York State. He also became very active with the Center for Dispute Settlement, serving on the Board of Directors and was especially interested in Peer Mediation Programs for students. During the 1990's George served on the Rochester Police Civilian Review Board and as a Lemon Law Arbitrator. His other interests included History, Politics and World News. He followed school sports throughout his career and watching his sons. His grandson - Gavin was born in 2006 and he was devoted to his progress and keeping in touch with him.
