Greece, NY. Dr. Michael A. Richards, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 14th, 2019 after a long battle with cancer and renal failure.Michael was born in Rochester, NY in 1938 to Michael and Emily (Carbone) Richards. He is survived by his loving wife Phyllis of 54 years, daughters Dr. Kimberly (Robert Staerker), Kelly, son Michael, granddaughter Emilea who was the love of his life, brother Robert (Carol) Richards, sisters-in-law Judy Richards and Nancy Pfeil, several cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Michael is also predeceased by his brother David Richards and brother-in-law Donald Pfeil.
Michael graduated from Aquinas Institute in 1956, St. John Fisher College in 1960, and from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine in 1964. Michael was a Captain in the United States Air Force and was stationed at a base in Pont-à-Mousson, France between 1964 and 1966. After he was discharged, he returned to the United States and opened a dental practice in North Chili, New York and went on to practice dentistry for over 50 years. He was active in the dental society and is a past president of the Apollonian Dental Study Club.
Michael was an enthusiastic sports fan, especially the Buffalo Bills. He played basketball in high school and college, skied and bicycled much of his life, and was still an avid golfer in recent times.
Michael's life story will be shared during visitation, 3-7PM on Friday, October 18th at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Rd, Rochester, NY. His funeral service will be celebrated 11:00am on Saturday, October 19th at the funeral home. Interment in White Haven Memorial Park. Donations may be made to Pluta Cancer Center at Wilmot Cancer Institute in Michael's memory.
