Merisola, Helen (Brenna) Fairport: July 25, 2017. Helen is predeceased by her husband, Samuel Merisola. She is survived by her children Douglas (Irene) Merisola Sharon Yockel; grandchildren, Jennifer Yockel, James (Aindrea) Yockel, Rene (Bradley) Fairman, Michelle McKenzie Kris (Roman) Osborne; 7 greatgrandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, npehews and dear friends. No prior visitation. Helen's funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, August 7th at 10 AM at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, 601 Edgewood Ave. Interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to American Cancer Society, 6725 Lyons St., PO Box 7, Syracuse NY 13057 in Helen's memory. Helen's parents emigrated to the United States from Italy where they settled in Rochester. She was born and raised in Rochester with her two sisters, Sally Marie. She attended East High School and the Rochester Commercial Art School and also took art classes at RBI. She met her husband, Sam, when he moved next door to her family. After their wedding Sam enlisted in the army. Helen and family went to Naples for the summers and eventually moved there. After Helen and Sam married and they purchased an old farm in Naples, NY. This became the place where family and friends gathered for summer picnics, hunting, Thanksgiving dinners and wintertime fun. Everyone gathered around the pot belly stove or the big trestle table and shared hours of stories, card games and deer hunting tales. Helen had a interesting array of occupations. She worked at Sears, Genesee Hospital, Kodak and Eastman Dental Center in a variety of roles and as a travel escort. Sam and Helen had two children, Douglas and Sharon. Being with family was Helen's greatest pleasure. She has five grandchildren, James, Jennifer, Rene, Michelle and Christine and several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She adored her children, grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren. For their 35th wedding anniversary, she and Sam enjoyed a trip to Hawaii. Art was always Helen's passion. She has always been and will always be an artist. Helen participated in numerous art exhibits and organized the Naples, NY Art Show for a number of years. When asked what advice she has for young people, she was very open and said very vehemently, "Don't hold back on your dreams, go for it, try anything, don't try to impress anyone, be yourself and you cannot go wrong."
