Sam was born on June 7, 1930 in Rochester, NY and grew up on Julia Street. As a boy, he was very active and played baseball, football, and was an Altar Boy at St. Lucy's. He graduated from Aquinas Institute in 1948. While in high school, Sam began working at BO Heath Pharmacy. After graduation, he joined the Army and served from 1951-1953. He was then transferred into the Reserves from 1953-1956. He worked at Eastman Kodak as a Punch Machine operator and later worked as a machine operator at Delco Products. Sam met Niki when they were introduced by Vito and Susie Grieco at a church picnic. They had a one year courtship after dating for 6 months and then became engaged. Six months later they were married in a ceremony at St. Lucy's Church. Sam always enjoyed hosting family holidays, Sunday dinner and picnics. He also liked to follow the news: local, political, and conservative. In his spare time, Sam was a faithful church goer, pro basketball fan, and he enjoyed fixing things, always starting one project after another. Sam liked playing golf, coaching baseball and football, was a baseball umpire, and he always enjoyed traveling to Florida and purchased a condo in Highland Beach and they became "snowbirds". Family and friends would best describe Sam as someone who was hard working, driven, social, a good friend, loyal, generous, thoughtful, and someone who always visited with his family and friends. Sam always had a sense of urgency. He was passionate about work and the details that made up the work. He served others with integrity. His staff at Rochester Colonial all knew that Sam valued them. He was outspoken, always took notes from meetings, and always dressed up to work. Sam was a very active, type-A personality. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
