Mary was born on November 6,1967 in Rochester, NY. She spent her childhood immersed in dance, theatre, cheerleading and liked rough housing with neighborhood kids. As a teen, she continued studying all forms of dance, and participated in theatre and cheerleading while she was a student at Aquinas. After graduation, she attended Mercyhurst College and subsequently held many administrative jobs such as at MCC where she was the secretary to VP Dr. Baker and also worked in the Bursar's office, and worked as a paralegal for Robert Burkwit. Mary also owned a dance studio (ISDPA) and taught dance at Dancebiz and Brockport College.
Mary was a Dance Instructor and Choreographer in the Greater Rochester area for over 20 years. She was the former Executive Director of Dance Rochester! and Artistic Director of Irondequoit School of Dance Performing Arts. Mary had recently been awarded the Arts Cultural Council for Greater Rochester's Decentralization Individual Artist Project Grant for 2012 for the Community Youth Ballet Project which created a new innovative contemporary ballet on the subject of anti-bullying. It always brought Mary great joy to share her passion for Ballet with other adult students!
Mary raised two daughters, Sarah Jane and Rachel, Mary considered the raising of her two daughters her greatest accomplishment. Anything to do with her daughters' success was always the greatest day of her life. She also loved caring for her two cats, Mr. Bojangles and Princes Ginger Rogers.
Some of Mary's favorite activities included teaching at Dancebiz, being on stage with the Monroe Players, and being a lector at Holy Ghost Church. Other things Mary enjoyed were poetry, reading books, including those by Stephen King and Anne Rice, listening to Michael Jackson music, and watching her favorite tv shows: So You Think You Can Dance, The Ellen Show, and Modern Family.
Family and friends would best describe Mary as someone who was always happy, full of life, open-minded, fun-loving, intelligent, intellectual and beautiful. She was a free spirit who was always smiling and never judged anyone. Mary had many friends from all walks of life. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
