Remembering Pauline:
Pauline was born in Scranton, PA on June 13, 1942, to Patrick and Barbara (Passero) LaBella. The family decided to move to Rochester, NY for employment and to be closer to other family members. Patrick was working as a tile mason at the time and Barbara was a homemaker, raising Pauline and her siblings, Salvatore, Ernesto, Ann Marie, Barbara & Patrick, and the family pet, Pepper. Even with a house full, Barbara would still find the time to begin cooking lunches for the sisters at St. Francis Xavier Convent.
Pauline attended St. Francis Xavier School for elementary school and graduated from East High School. She worked packaging finished goods and was a supervisor at DeRidder Inc., a manufacturing, packaging, and fulfillment firm for more than 15 years. She also volunteered at St. Andrews Food Cupboard. Pauline loved to shop whether, in the stores or on QVC, she enjoyed Bingo, bowling, playing in Euchre & Pinochle Tournaments, or going to the casinos to play her favorite game of chance... slot machines.
In 1962 Pauline met William "Bill" Sherwood through mutual friends, Fritz & MaryAnn. They were married and continued a family of their own. They welcomed a daughter, Paula Jean followed by a son, William Jerome, Jr. Together they loved to go on family camping trips to Canada, where they would go fishing and water skiing.
Pauline was raised looking up to her mom as a homemaker/mother. She learned how to be a great cook, notable for her Easter Breads, Pizzas, Christmas Cookies, and of course her homemade sauce. She was a wonderful mother to Paula & Bill Jr., so sweet, caring, resourceful, nurturing, and generous. Her sense of family and togetherness will surely be missed.
