Born in: Gates, NY
Resided in: Avon, NY

With deep love and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lee Anne Schery, who left this world on September 6, 2025, at the age of 68.
Born and raised in Rochester, NY, Lee graduated early from Our Lady of Mercy High School in 1974. Ambitious and determined, she worked tirelessly while raising three young children on her own and continuing her education. In 1989, she proudly earned her Associate’s Degree in Science Laboratory Technology from Alfred State College.
On July 23, 1990, Lee married Gideon, the love of her life and her steadfast partner. Together they shared 35 wonderful years of marriage, recently celebrating their milestone anniversary just a month and a half ago. Their union was one of devotion, joy, and unwavering support.
Lee dedicated her career to the care and well-being of animals, first as a Veterinary Technician for 25 years, and then as a Research Lab Technician at the University of Rochester for another 25 years. Her compassion for animals began in childhood and never waned-her home was a true menagerie that over the years included horses, dogs, cats, birds, sugar gliders, chinchillas, lizards, snakes, and more.
Her love of nature extended into her gardens, where she nurtured flowers and trees for the birds, butterflies, and bees she cherished. This deep connection to the natural world shaped her spiritual journey in Wicca, a path she lovingly practiced and shared for much of her life. She joyfully officiated marriages and handfastings, guiding others through their own spiritual journeys.
Creative and curious, Lee expressed herself through painting, sculpting, candle making, bookmaking, baking, knitting, and crocheting-often making treasured gifts for family and friends, and teaching others her crafts. She was also an avid reader who especially loved Stephen King, and a passionate music fan who always had songs playing, with Janis Joplin at the top of her playlist.
Of all her joys, none compared to her family. Lee is survived by her beloved husband Gideon, and her cherished children: Cassandra E. (Michael) Lamantia, Michael T. (Shelley) McHale, and Aaron J. McHale. She was most proud of her role as “Nana” to her grandchildren, who brought her endless happiness and love.
In her final act of generosity, Lee donated her brain to science in the hope of contributing to the search for a cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, which took both her father and her too soon.
A Celebration of Lee’s Life will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at No BS Brew Company, 3474 Bronson Hill Road, Livonia, NY 14487. All are welcome to join in remembering and honoring her.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations made in Lee’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 200 Meridian Centre Blvd., Suite 110, Rochester NY 14618; or Lollipop Farm, Human Society of Greater Rochester, 99 Victor Rd. Fairport NY 14450.
