Amelia Sue Brown Baumgartner of Greece, New York died May 16, 2024. She was born on September 26, 1941, on the family farm outside of Waterville, NY, the daughter of Margaret Mason Brown and Wilson Miller Brown.
In 1959, she graduated from Waterville Ventral School and from SUNY Geneseo in 1969.
In 1960 she married Frank Coppola in St. Bernard's Church in Waterville. On October 16, 2004, in Fulton, NY she married Norman Baumgartner, her longtime companion and best friend.
In 1969, she joined the faculty of Alexander Central School, Alexander, NY. She taught Junior High English until her retirement in 1997. Throughout her teaching career, she was an active participant in the Alexander United Teachers, serving on the negotiating team, as president, and as a NYSUT and AFT delegate for many years. As an educator, she was always seeking ways to better serve the students in her classroom. She was always open to new ideas and approaches to teaching.
She is survived by her husband Norman, her son Mark Coppola (Holly) of Sinclairville, NY, her daughter Kristen M. Coppola (Donna) of Evans City, PA; stepchildren Susan (Mark) Stella of Leroy, NY, Norman (Sheila) Baumgartner of Hamilton, OH, Amy (Michael) Lovell of Milwaukee, WI, Jeffrey (Amanda) Baumgartner of Columbus, OH; three grandchildren Rachel (Martin) Southworth, Heather Coppola, and Dylan (Cassandra) Coppola, eleven step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; sisters, Janet Griebert and Laurie (George) Keith, and brother Terry Brown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, infant brother Fenton, an infant sister Lucinda, brother Wilson (Rube) Brown, sister Elaine Brown Turgeon, and her brothers-in-law, Raymond Turgeon, and F. David Griebert.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Sangerfield Cemetery, Sangerfield, NY. In memory of Sue, kindly consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
