August was born on August 18, 1925 to Peter and Josephine Tuffo in Rochester, NY. August was always a fan of old cars and trains, starting from his childhood. His love of cars and working on them, led him to working in a junkyard. At this time, he bought his first car which was a 1935 Ford. He met his wife, Ida when he was 17 years old and Ida was 14 years old. He joined the U. S. Marines in 1943 and served until 1946. August and Ida were married in 1946 and they have been married for 70 years. They went on to have 6 children, 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Throughout his life, August also worked in the railroad industry and drove a tractor trailer truck for Associated Eastern. He also loved and enjoyed having pets his whole life, particularly dogs and cats, as he was known to be the "beastmaster" with his pets. August and his family enjoyed many camping trips together throughout the years. They would go to Watkins Glenn, India Head Lake and Fort Niagra. August was most happy when his family came over to visit. He also loved to do yard work, reading the newspaper and working on his train set. August was a N.Y. Jets football fan, he liked listening to classical music and watching boxing matches on T.V. One of his favorite sayings was "there are too many chiefs and not enough Indians." August was known to be light hearted and loved to joke and kid around. Sometimes he would put his hot pipe in his pocket and it would burn a hole through his pants. August took his first airplane ride in 1989 when his children took him on vacation to Orlando, Florida. While there, he enjoyed visiting Magic Kingdom amusement park and got to ride in a car on the beach in Daytona. August had a witty way of doing things, as one time he was shopping for a new car and the sales person kept his keys to his old car and wouldn't give them back until August bought the new car he was considering. So, he had his family pile into the new car and began to drive away, which quickly got the salesman's attention. August was a funny and lovable husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family and will always fondly remembered by many who knew and loved him.
