Barbara was born on June 4, 1924 to Arthur and Gladys Muriel Swales. She grew up in the town of Harrogate in Yorkshire, England. She met her husband Kenneth in England when he was serving in the Royal Airforce in World War II. She moved to Kingston, Jamaica to be with her true love Kenneth. They were married in 1950 and had three children. After the passing of her husband, she moved to Rochester, New York where she spent the rest of her life. She was an advisor and confidant to her six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who speak fondly of all the memories they have of her.
During her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing and embroidering, knitting for her grandchildren, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and going to the mall with her daughter. One of Barbara's most recent memorable events was her surprise 90th birthday party. Many family members and friends traveled from afar to celebrate this momentous occasion with her. She touched the lives of many people with her warmth, kindness, compassion and gentle presence. Barbara will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all of her family and friends.
