Remembering Casimer J. Stanchus

Casimer J. “Cas” Stanchus was a man whose life was defined by faith, service, family, and an unwavering kindness toward others. Strong in character and generous in spirit, he never hesitated to sacrifice for those around him and carried a deep concern for anyone in need. His life was a testament to love, humility, and devotion.

As a young man, Cas answered the call to serve his country, proudly serving in the United States Army during the Korean War. The discipline, dedication, and sense of duty he developed during his military service remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

After returning home, fate brought him together with the love of his life, Janice. The two met at a family dinner, and their connection quickly blossomed into a lifelong partnership. They were married on July 26, 1958, at St. Michael’s Church, beginning a marriage filled with faith, devotion, and family.

Cas built a career as a welder at Kodak, where his strong work ethic and dependable nature earned the respect of those around him. Beyond his profession, he was known as a versatile handyman, affectionately earning the title of “Mr. Fix It.” Whether repairing something around the house or tinkering with a new project, he seemed able to fix just about anything. He took great pride in sharing those skills with his sons, passing along valuable lessons that extended far beyond tools and repairs.

At the center of his life was deep Catholic faith. Prayer was woven into his daily routine, and he faithfully prayed the Rosary and other Catholic prayers each day. He believed strongly in the power of prayer and consistently remembered others in his petitions, offering prayers for family, friends, and anyone facing hardship.

While he worked hard, Cas also embraced the joys of life. An avid sportsman, he loved hunting, archery, and fishing. Nature was one of God’s greatest gifts in his eyes, and he found peace and wonder in the outdoors. Whether observing birds in flight, watching wildlife, admiring wildflowers, or simply appreciating the beauty of trees, he delighted in the natural world around him.

Cas also had a creative and joyful side. He enjoyed singing, dancing, and playing the clarinet, sharing his gifts and enthusiasm with those around him. His wonderful sense of humor was one of his most memorable qualities. He had a knack for making people laugh with a well-timed joke or funny remark, brightening gatherings and lifting spirits wherever he went.

Family brought Cas his greatest happiness. Nothing lit up his face more than spending time with his loved ones. He found immense joy in the company of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, whose presence filled his heart with pride and happiness. The sight of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren could instantly bring a smile to his face.

Those who knew him also knew about his famous sweet tooth. He never met a dessert or treat he didn’t enjoy, especially when it was lovingly prepared by his daughter. Whether it was a special family recipe or a simple homemade dessert, he always appreciated the thought and love that went into every bite.

When relaxing at home, he enjoyed watching western movies, nature programs, sporting events, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Family Feud. These simple pleasures brought him comfort and entertainment, often accompanied by laughter and family companionship.

Throughout his life, Cas was a man of remarkable faith, strength, and generosity. He was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, loyal friend, skilled craftsman, and faithful servant of God. His legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched through his kindness, humor, wisdom, and love. Though he will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave will continue to inspire his family and friends for generations to come.
