Remembering Catherine
Mom, Wife, Sister, Daughter, Grandmother
Catherine (Charlotte) met her husband, Kris (LeRoy), through a mutual friend at a party on Charlotte Beach. That night he asked her if she wanted to go get clams and the rest was history. They got married a few years later on Halloween leading to a lifelong love for the holiday and an annual open house party to celebrate.
Family vacations were a highlight of the year - Lake George for 27 years and, more recently, Niagara-On-The-Lake for wine and spa relaxation with Kris; Florida with friends, LBI and trips to the Finger Lakes. In her retirement, she and Kris drove down to North Carolina as much as they could to spend time with her brother, Phillip. They loved visiting him at the farm where he worked with miniature horses and raised beagles. They loved riding in Phillip's Mustang with the top down, going "downtown" to Bermuda Run for a drink and live music, and visiting their favorite N.C. Wineries - Childress, and Jolo. Catherine was very close with her grandmother Sheila. She cherished a memoir that was passed down to her which shared stories of their life in Bells Hill and the greater Glasgow area. Catherine had always dreamt of going to Scotland to see where this amazing woman came from and the kids made it possible in 2019. The family went on a two week road trip throughout Scotland. The kids were in charge and Catherine and Kris sat in the back, relaxing and enjoying the scenery. The family went to Bells Hill where Sheila was born and raised. They visited the church where she was baptized, the family cemetery, and the Carfin Grotto whose creation was described in the family memoir.
Catherine was active in all of Kristopher and Sara's athletic programs growing up. Starting early with CYAA baseball coaching Sara's T-Ball team. She was Kristopher and Sara's caddy throughout their years in the Latta Lea Golf League (They were champions every year). She was famously known as "Trainer Catherine'' for Sara's club soccer teams where she was a physical therapist to all those who needed her including the other team sometimes. She was heavily involved with the kids during their time at Holy Cross and Aquinas as a coach, HC Sunday's DOD, AQ concession stand manager and of course attending all of their elementary school plays and high school art shows. She has continued her support for Holy Cross through volunteering with Team Terri. Come college, she made sure to get to as many of Kristopher's soccer & basketball games whether they were home games or say a basketball game in New Hampshire. if you called she was there. Paul Smith 5 hours away and Bonaventure 2 hours away, she made sure to make it in record time. Over the years she was a coach, team physical therapist, team mom and crowd cheerleader. Every step of the way she was there to help the kids with homework, projects, driving practice, and their first hangovers (KK). Anything the kids needed she was there.
Before she became a Klinkbeil, Catherine was a Lipani. Baking was in her blood. She loved cooking for family, friends and guests. Whether it was cookies, pies or breads, baking was always a must. She taught Sara how to make cherry pies, and create a lattice top. She loved watching Kristopher make homemade pasta helping him make the right cut. She sought comfort in butter cookies, and ciambellone, and every morning began with a cup of coffee and biscotti.
Catherine had a 13 year career at Rochester General Hospital before leaving to go to the Greece Central School District to work with "her other kids" whom she has stayed in touch with. Kristopher and Sara fondly remember "take your kid to work days" and helping her set up her room before the school year. She had a great group of work friends who the family got to know over the years. The family would often join them for their end of year happy hours with fond memories of Marge's. She especially loved her Autumn Lane family. She worked at GCSD for 20 years.
Throughout her care she had a great team behind her. The best, Dr. Angel, a close and loving infusion team, support from Cancer Wellness Connection, and great friendships from her "Peeps" at BCCR.
Catherine will be remembered for her piercing blue eyes, infectious laugh, Italian generosity of spirit (and food), and her unconditional love for her family and friends.
