Life Story of Charles Scarantino

Charles Scarantino was born on May 20, 1952, in Sicily, to Salvatore and Alfonsa Scarantino, who worked tirelessly in a seamstress shop to provide for their family. Alongside his brother Sam, Charles learned early the value of hard work, loyalty, and devotion to family — values that would define his entire life.

After immigrating to the United States, Charles attended Holy Family Grade School and later graduated from Edison Technical High School. He began his working life as a stenographer, a role that reflected his discipline and precision, before finding his true calling in masonry. As a mason, Charles built not only structures, but a reputation for being dependable, skilled, and proud of honest labor. Home projects were never just chores to him — they were opportunities to improve his surroundings and to teach by example.

Charles met the love of his life, Karen, through mutual friends. Their connection was immediate and enduring, and they were married on May 18, 1973. Karen had the greatest impact on Charles’s life, grounding him and standing beside him through every season. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.

They raised two children, Chris Scarantino and Jessica Newman, whom Charles adored deeply. He took immense pride in teaching his children — and later his grandchildren — everything he could. Whether it was learning how to ride a bike, swim confidently, work with their hands, or simply navigate life, Charles was always patient, present, and eager to pass along his knowledge. His grandchildren became his greatest joy and remain his living legacy.

Charles was happiest outdoors, soaking up the sun, tending his garden, or spending time with friends. He loved sharing laughs and smoking weed with his buddies, staying connected with many close friends right up until his final days. His beloved dog, Bailey, was a constant companion and a cherished member of the family.

Family vacations were a treasured part of Charles’s life. Long drives together led to unforgettable trips to Niagara Falls, Ocean City, Maryland, the Virgin Islands, the Thousand Islands, and Lake George — memories that remain vivid and dear to those who shared them with him.

Music was another passion. Charles loved Pink Floyd, Metallica, and hard rock and roll, often letting the music fill his home. He also found simple joy in watching dog shows, appreciating the beauty, discipline, and loyalty he so admired.

Like many strong-willed men, Charles struggled at times with controlling his temper, but his heart was always rooted in love. He was devoted to his family above all else, and every effort he made was for their benefit.

Charles Scarantino passed away on January 13, 2026. He will be remembered as a loving, hardworking, funny, handsome, and loyal man — a devoted husband, a proud father, a cherished grandfather, a true friend, and a man whose family meant everything to him.
