Christie was born in Rochester, New York in 1920. His parents, Angelo and Nellie (Ciccarelli) immigrated to the United States from Sicily. They lived on Trust Street and later moved to Bay Street near Hebard Street.
Christie had three brothers; George, Joe and Russell. Sunday was a special time when the whole family would gather after 12:00 mass for Sunday sauce. Many Ortolani relatives lived on Bay Street and all attended St. Francis Xavier Church and would often drop by in the afternoon for a game of cards.
Christie graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and attended Curtis Wright Aeronautics Academy in Buffalo, New York. He then entered the Air Force where he was a flight engineer during World War II.
Prior to entering the service, he was introduced to Caroline Fanara by his cousin Grace Ortolani. Carrie and Chris wrote to each other throughout the war and when he returned, they began seeing each other. Shortly after, they were married and lived at 1 Dake Street where Carrie's father owned a grocery store. In 1947 their daughter Joanne was born, followed by the birth of their son Gary in 1951, and their daughter Christine in 1957. In 1958 they moved to Lemoyn Avenue in Charlotte.
During the 1960's he and his three brothers ran several restaurants located in Rochester and Greece. He then joined the Prudential Insurance Company as a salesman and retired in 1980. After retirement from Prudential, he worked at Rochester Community and Gold Dome banks as a consultant. Following his second retirement, he and Caroline volunteered at Holy Cross Church. He was an usher for the 5:00 mass for many years. In addition, they counted money, cleaned the church, and worked at the festival. Christie led and organized the annual First Communion Breakfast for many years, until he was well into his 80's.
He and Carrie enjoyed taking bus trips to the Casino in Atlantic City, Niagra Falls, and Finger Lakes. They always enjoyed meeting different people and the elaborate buffets.
Christie was a sweet, gentle, kind, enthusiastic, supportive, unassuming, man who loved everyone unconditionally. He had so many favorite sayings such as, "Let nature take its course," "You name it, I'll feed it", "No problemo", and "WOW".
He was deeply loved for the beautiful husband, father and grandfather that he was.
