Christina (Patterson) Eeckhout
ROCHESTER - Friday, June 19, 2020, passed peacefully at the age of 92. Predeceased by her husband; Joseph M. Eeckhout, children; Maureen and Michael. She is survived by her children; Kathleen M. Fouquet (Richard), Elizabeth M. Mogray (David) and John M. Eeckhout (Paula), five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Christina was a long-time member of the Eastern Star and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved all kinds of music. She was the embodiment of Meredith Brooks' 1997 hit song. She played her Serenade for Strings album so often that she wore it out. She could sing, and play the piano, but loved playing her huge organ even more (it took up half the living room). History and science were her favorite subjects. The mailbox was full of news and science magazines. Novels didn't interest her, biographies did. What would she have become if she had attended college? At least she was able to enjoy the senior learning classes offered by RIT in her later years. Her thirst for knowledge was insatiable. She was the youngest of six children whose mother died when Chris was just 3 years old. She grew up learning the domestic tasks that her sisters taught her, but there's no doubt that she chafed at the restraints and restrictions. She grew into a strong and independent woman, all while knitting and crocheting and even sewing a beautiful wedding gown on a treadle sewing machine for her oldest daughter. She had as many interests as there are stars in the sky. She was an avid bike rider, and then upgraded to motorcycles. And did she love to shop! The Godfather movies were her all-time favorites. She learned to use a computer before most people her age. And, did she ever spoil her English Bulldogs! She even raised canaries - not one at a time, but 20 at a time. She loved her lilacs, peonies and rose bushes (the apple trees, not so much). She is the last of her Patterson family to leave this earth. It has been so difficult for those of us who love her to watch as the aging process brought more and more limitations with each passing month.
There will be no calling hours or funeral service for Christina. Not because of the coronavirus, but because she didn't want the fuss. Her body will be cremated, and her ashes scattered somewhere. She just wanted to be free.
