PITTSFORD - December 23, 2019: Cini was born on December 7, 1933 in Watertown. Cini grew up on the St. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay, sharing a love of the outdoors with her parents Kathryn (Campbell) Garlock and Sterling A. Garlock, and older brother, Richard S. "Dick" Garlock. From an early age, Cini was a highly creative and meticulous craftswoman who worked in many media--including painting in oils and watercolors, as well as sculpting. She attended both Northwestern University and Syracuse University where she studied art and journalism. While at Syracuse she fell in love with Richard ("Dick") W. Kozlowski, Sr., who she married on August 16, 1954. Cini and Dick shared their lives lovingly together over the next six-plus decades raising four children: Karen Mireau Rimmer (Ray), Richard W. Kozlowski, Jr. (Tracy), the late Sterling J. Kozlowski (Marylee) and Eric S. Kozlowski. Cini loved her children and they loved her. At the family camp in New Hampshire, Cini doted on her grandchildren: Christopher Kozlowski (Katie), Marina Williams (Hunter), Kiley Kozlowski, Hilary Kozlowski and Charlie Kozlowski. She would spend long days with them, playing, swimming, exploring and boating. The memories of these days are precious to her grandchildren. Cini also loved and enjoyed her two great-grandchildren -- Zoey and Jackson Williams -- and a former daughter-in-law, Eliza Benington Kozlowski. She was beloved and admired by her two nieces, Jennifer Hebert and Marcia Slocum, her two nephews, David and Matthew Garlock, and her many friends. Cini was more than a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a well-rounded talent. While raising a family (and later in life) she designed and built furniture, wrote and published books of poetry and short stories - including a picture book for preschoolers and novels for middle grade children. Cini loved art and music and being in the outdoors. She studied art history as an adult at Nazareth College in Pittsford, New York. Cini became an avid golfer and tennis player, and a rabid Scrabble addict. Like her husband, she enjoyed competition and had a great sense of humor (but, unlike her husband, was an admittedly terrible joke teller). Cini's life ended peacefully on December 23, 2019 after an extended illness. Poignantly and poetically, she died on the same day of the year as her husband who she lost exactly six years prior. She was also preceded by the death of her son Sterling in 2018, and her brother, Richard Garlock, just months ago. A celebration of Cini's life will be held in Alexandria Bay, New York in the summer of 2020 on a date to be announced.
