Daniel E. Haefner
March 17, 1949 ~ April 10, 2026
Born in: Rochester, NY
Resided in: Rochester, NY
Dan is survived by his wife, Chris; daughter, Shelley (Amy Stranahan); and son, Jeff.
Dan grew up in Rochester, NY, then later moved to Connecticut to attend Hartford Airline School. After graduation, he moved to NYC where he worked for Allegheny Airlines at LaGuardia Airport. While in NYC, he met his future wife, Chris and the two were married in Sewickley, PA in 1971. They later moved to Rochester, NY where he continued his career with Allegheny Airlines which eventually became USAirways. After over 30 years at USAirways, he retired in 2005 and then worked part time at Paychex.
Dan and Chris did a lot of traveling before having kids including trips to Germany, Austria, Bermuda, and a few of the states. While the kids were young, the family traveled to Florida each year and treasured the time spent at Orange Lake Resort. Dan enjoyed his annual car racing trips to Florida with his buddies. He also loved golfing and playing darts and was in leagues for both for many years. Besides his hobbies, he also actively participated in his son’s Boy Scouts activities and loved watching Jeff play basketball and baseball. He also coached softball for Shelley’s travel team, Rochester Thunder, for several years. Dan was a dog lover and their dog Ginger had a special piece of his heart.
Once the kids got older, the Florida trips to Orange Lake became trips with Tom and Betty Beard, where the guys enjoyed golfing while the ladies enjoyed bingo and strawberry daiquiris. They also made local trips with Don and Mary Williams to Canada, Darien Lake, and casinos.
After leaving Paychex, he developed Parkinson’s disease which, in time, became challenging for him to live and function at home. He moved to Hamilton Manor Nursing Home where he resided for 2 years before his symptoms became worse. He was then forced, yet fortunate, to be able to spend his final days in a comfortable quiet setting at Hildebrant Hospice Care surrounded by his family.
Dan’s life story will be shared during his visitation on Thursday, April 30th, 4-7 PM, at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 1st, 10 AM, at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Rd.
Donations can be made in his honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation, 1350 Broadway, Suite 1530, New York NY 10018; or Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Road, Fairport NY 14450.
