Domenico M. D’Onofrio

North Chili: Cherished husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 11, 2025, at the age of 93. He leaves behind a legacy of humility, generosity, and love.

Born in Elmira, New York, on August 15, 1931, Domenico lost his parents at a young age during the Great Depression and was sent along with his younger sister, Antoinnette to live with family in the Campania region of Italy. He returned to the United States in the early 1950s, becoming a master tailor in Rochester, New York, for Hickey Freeman and later for Sibley’s. Domenico was universally admired for his hard work, attention to detail, and dedication to his craft.

First and foremost, Domenico was a family man, fiercely protective of his family’s well-being and legacy. His humble roots blossomed into three generations of successful and compassionate individuals. Domenico is survived by his wife, Sara D’Onofrio, the great love of his life, married 72 years; his children, James C. Donofrio (spouse Fina), Maria C. Dambra (spouse Anthony), and Christopher Donofrio; his grandchildren, Christina Ashrafioun (spouse Lisham), Anthony Dambra (spouse Angela), Alexandra Sanhueza (spouse Dominic), James Donofrio (spouse Lisa), Jennifer (Zach) Frattali, Domenico Donofrio, and Phillip Donofrio; and seven great-grandchildren. His spirit and kindness touched all who knew him and will remain forever.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Monica’s Church at 831 Genesee Street on January 16, at 10 AM, with burial services to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
