Dominic Marini, Jr. December 25, 2019. Predeceased by his parents Dominic Maria Tiberi Marini. Dominic is survived by his loving wife of 45 years Patricia; children, Dawn Davina Marini Dom Marini; grandchildren, Annika Straight Celyn Straight, brother, David P (Julie) Marini; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Visitation will be held Friday January 3, 10 am - 12 pm at the funeral home, followed by his funeral service at 12 pm. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family . Dominic Marini Jr, 69, passed peacefully at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York on December 25, 2019, surrounded by his family. Dominic was born in Niagara Falls, New York, and is predeceased by his parents, Dominic Marini and Maria Tiberi; beloved aunt Nevia Tiberi; uncle Duilio Tiberi; and grandparents. The Tiberis immigrated from Introdaqua, Italy; his father's parents from Torrice, Italy. An avid athlete, he grew up playing little League and became a record-breaking champion high jumper for Bishop Duffy High School and Roberts-Wesleyan College in North Chili, New York. After earning his Bachelor's at Roberts, he went on to get his Masters of Teaching from Niagara University. Dominic spent 36 years teaching history and social studies at Niagara-Wheatfield school district and Fairport's Johanna Perrin Middle School. Deeply interested in his subject, he could often be found reading biographies and historical texts and took the family on many a trip to battlefields and historic sites around the country. He was especially passionate about Civil War and World War II history. Dominic retired from teaching in 2010. Dominic is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 45 years, Patricia (Plunkett); children, Dawn Davina Marini and Dom Marini; grandchildren Annika and Celyn Straight; brother, David P. (Julie) Marini; aunt, Bambina (Giovanni) Ventresca; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A devoted father and grandfather, Dominic loved spending time with the kids playing catch, shooting hoops, and "peppering" the volleyball. A talented and enthusiastic volleyball player, Dominic played for the Third Warders Club in North Tonawanda for a decade. He made and maintained lifelong friendships from his playing days. He was also a serious and knowledgeable music fan, attending an impressive number of concerts over his lifetime and devouring musical histories and biographies. He had a great collection of vinyl and rocked the house playing albums by the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and countless others. A master of the malapropism and the unintentional portmanteau, Dominic loved making his family laugh. He was famous for his uncanny sixth sense, a supernatural ability to escape danger, and an unparalleled sense of direction. He could talk college football for hours as a loyal, lifelong fan of University of Alabama's Crimson Tide, was a fantastic storyteller, and was known to give a good lecture. Dominic stood out in a crowd in his iconic black ensembles, particularly his trademark black leather trenchcoat and ever-present gold crucifix. You'd know him by the characteristic tilt of his head, so he could hear you in his good ear. Dominic loved flowers, but charitable contributions in his name may also be made to Golisano Children's Hospital or Wilmot Cancer Center. He was deeply loved and will be sorely missed. Roll Tide.
