Donna J. Colangelo (Pitts, Pickering, Fischer) Greece- passed peacefully on June 29, 2019 at age 75. Predeceased by her parents Donald J. Lucy J. Pitts. Donna is survived by her children Ronald (Kerry) Pickering, Robert (Konul) Pickering Renee Rose; 4 grandchildren- Kamran, Owen, Emerson Aydin; sister Margaret (Fred) Schweitz. Donna was born and raised in Roch. NY. She retired from the City of Roch. Police Dep't and was a faithful member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Donna's life story will be shared during visitation 2-4 6-8 PM on Thurs Sept. 19 at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane Roch. NY 14626 (between Rt. 390 Long Pond Rd.). Her funeral service will be held on Fri Sept. 20 at 11:00 AM at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 4115 Dewey Ave, Roch. NY 14616. Born in Rochester in April of 1944 to Donald and Lucy Pitts. She grew up in the S. Goodman St. area. As a child she loved playing with her sister, Margaret, dolls; especially "Susie", building forts, going to the movies, ice skating, swimming in her pool and dancing Ballet. Donna was an avid church goer and member of Methodist church social center participating in bible study and other events. A fond memory as a small child was when her father found her with sugar all around her mouth and a package of donuts each with a bite taken out of it. When he had asked if she had eaten them, she said "no," she loved to tell this story. Donna went to Monroe High School and upon graduation found a job working at Rochester Telephone Company. She married while she was young and became a stay at home mom while living in the town of Greece. Once her youngest had started school, Donna went to work at Patty Hill library. After taking some civil service exams, she moved up to a position at the Rochester Public Library Downtown and eventually would find herself as a clerk for the Rochester Police Department where she would ultimately retire from. She absolutely loved the library atmosphere, her co-workers and reading. Donna enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially yellow roses. She was so proud of buying her own home on Eileen Drive and getting to decorate it. Christmas time was her favorite, not just because of the holiday but because of the decorations and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed watching TV; Big Bang Theory, Antiques Road Show, Cash Cab, Jeopardy and Family Feud to name a few or listening to Barry Manilow Barbara Streisand. Spending time with her family was so important. The love and pride she had for her children's accomplishments throughout their life was immeasurable from their college graduations to having children of their own. Donna was a loving, generous, strong, determined, loving (sometimes to her own hurt), hard working and practical woman. She endured her share of trials throughout her life but always rose above. She will be missed by her family and friends.
