ROCHESTER - Dorothy (Dottie) passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021, at the age of 92. She was a loving wife of Paul Ralph Lagonegro who predeceased her in 2005, and a devoted mother to her son Mark Lagonegro who predeceased her on June 4, 2021. Dorothy is also predeceased by her parents Willard and Mae McKensie, sister MaryLou (Owen) Jones, nephew Owen Jones, and in-laws Ralph and Anna Lagonegro all of Elmira, NY. Dorothy and Paul were married for 50 years.
Dorothy is survived by her sons Paul, Kirk (Jennifer), and Alan (Zina); six grandchildren, Stephanie (Kwabena), Nicole, Colleen, Sean, Samantha and Matthew; great-granddaughter Sophie; niece Maggie McLoughlin (Jones), nephew Greg (Sharon) Jones, niece Kori (Brenda) Benninger-Jones, and many great nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was born in Kingston, PA and moved to Elmira, NY at a young age. She received her Regents Diploma from Elmira Free Academy, and she trained at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA having received her degree as a Registered Nurse in 1950. Dorothy began her nursing career at Robert Packer Hospital working as a head nurse in the operating room. Her nursing career took her from the small town of Sayre, PA to New York City having worked at Cornell Med Center Sloan Kettering Hospital as a private duty nurse, and Mt. Sinai Hospital as head nurse in the operating room.
After she and Paul married, they moved to Cleveland, OH for Paul's job, and Dorothy worked at Western Reserve University Hospital. Paul was then transferred to Rochester, NY where they made their home and raised their four boys. Dorothy worked at Strong Memorial Hospital as an RN float nurse and Highland Hospital when her children were young. She then worked at Monroe County Hospital for decades where she retired in 1981. She went back to work part-time at the Jewish Home and then at The Sisters of St. Joseph Infirmary on the Nazareth College campus.
Dorothy was a wonderful daughter, wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma. She and Paul enjoyed boating, travelling, and making memories with their family.
Her life story will be shared during visitation on Friday, August 6th from 4-7 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane, Rochester, NY 14626. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 7th at 9:30 AM, St. Lawrence Church, 1000 N. Greece Rd. 14626.
