Emily's visitation is Friday from 2-4 7-9 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd) where her funeral service will also be celebrated on Saturday at 11 AM. Interment in Riverside Cemetery. Our hearts are broken. Our bodies are numb. Our minds are still filled with disbelief and so many questions. On 7-17-14 at 10:50 pm the sweetest little lady in the world was officially taken from us. Honestly, she never really came back to us after her extensive/complicated 20 hour surgery in Boston on Monday the 14th. At the very end of the procedure, her heart stopped. It took 14 minutes to revive her. The doctors were very hopeful she would recover, but due to her condition, her brain did not get enough blood flow for too long and the damage was too extensive to recover. We had the best doctors and specialists in the country trying to repair her damaged complicated little body. You could not see it on the outside, but all of her major blood vessels were severely diseased/damaged. Unfortunately we still do not have a name for what it is she had. That in itself is a very difficult pill to swallow even for the doctors. This surgery was our only hope for Emily. At some point in the very near future she surely would have had some kind of episode she would not have recovered from. Emily was an amazing little lady and dealt with this disease so well. People would ask us "how do you do it." It wasn't us, it was her that did it all. Had she not been so amazing in how she handled all of it, we definitely would not have been able to do it. She always did everything every doctor ever asked or told her to do. Emily didn't stop fighting, her body just couldn't do it anymore. Emily completed 8th grade at the Gates Chili Middle School. Emily loved spending time with her family friends. Emily loved to read, especially the Hunger Games and Vampire Academy series. Emily used to play soccer, recently played tennis and was a member of the Girl Scouts. Emily was becoming very interested in photography and was looking forward to taking classes for it in high school next year. Some of Emily's favorite TV shows were Anime cartoons, Hetalia, Black Butler, Law Order, and a various vampire shows. Before she would have this extensive surgery, it was very important to Emily to complete the 8th grade school year, attend the 8th grade Niagara Falls Trip, 8th Grade Farewell dance and to see Blood in the Dance Floor in concert. She successfully fulfilled all of those wishes and even met the band leaders in person just a couple of weeks ago. Emily is described by her loved ones as someone reserved until she got to know people and had a sweet, shy smile. She tried her best not to let people know she had a medical condition. She always put others first. She was resilient, accepting, social, loving, respectful, determined, and had a very big heart. She has taught so many of us the true meaning of bravery. Emily will be greatly missed. Emily's family would like to extend our special thanks to both the Nephrology Cardiology departments at Golisano's Children's Hospital at Strong, to Boston Children's Hospital and the Italian American Coalition for Kids.
