July 30, 2014. Survived by daughter, Diana (Dennis) Newberry; grandsons Justin, Jonathan Schmidt Travis A. Newberry; sisters, Emily Holland Doria Waddell; brother, George (Shiela) DiGiovanni; and many nieces nephews.
Ferga's visitation will be Sunday 1-4 pm at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd.). Her funeral mass will be celebrated Monday 9:30 am at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Nazareth College c/o Casa Italiana, 4245 East Ave. Rochester, NY 14618 in Ferga's memory.
Ferga was born on February 20, 1923 in Rome, Italy. During her childhood, Ferga enjoyed riding her bicycle and attending church at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome, Italy.When she was a young adult she attended school and liked to draw. Ferga met her husband Ralph in Italy during the War in 1945. They both immigrated to the US and they were married at St. Brigid'sChurch in Rochester, NY on July 26, 1947.
Ferga entertained her family at every holiday event and enjoyed cooking for her grandsons. Ferga liked to garden and do her shopping at Wegmans. She also enjoyed eating at Wendy's especially their Frosty's. Ferga also volunteered her time at Park Ridge (Unity) hospital until she was 84 years old. Some of Ferga's favorite T.V. shows were "All My Children" and "Dancing with the Stars." She liked listening to italian music and opera and she loved singer, Connie Francis. Ferga's favorite song was "Puppy Love." She also always read the newspaper and would say "Did you know that Mussolini lived on my street?"
Ferga is described as a feisty, strong willed woman who was traditional, religious, frugal and outgoing. Ferga was a compassionate, caring person who was social, generous, matriarchal and was a very gracious host. Ferga will be greatly missed.
