History
Biography of Florence From family and friends Florence was born on May 27, 1924 in Rochester, New York to the parents of Frank and Melanie Liberacki. Florence was the eldest daughter and the second of five children - Frank, Florence, Irene, Vicki and Eugene. She went to St. Stanislaus School for grammar school where she was a member of the school choir. She attended Franklin High School and then went to vocational school to become a licensed hairdresser. Later, she worked as a volunteer at Highland Hospital and at the same time, she began working at Bausch and Lomb on St. Paul Street. She was one of the first women in the apprenticeship program. It was there, in 1943, that she met the man of her dreams, Fred. Both of them being too shy, it took a mutual friend's introduction to bring them together. Their courtship blossomed into love and they were engaged in the Fall of 1943 and shortly after, Fred left for the service. While he was home on a 10-day furlough the following year, Florence and her mother planned their wedding. In fact, two days before the wedding, Florence and her Dad gave Fred a 'crash course' in dancing so he could dance "one mean polka" at their wedding. They were married on May 13, 1944 and honeymooned in Niagara Falls. Florence wrote to her husband every day while he was away and, once Fred was discharged from the service in 1946, they began their family and over the years had four children - Noreen, Beverly, Fred Jr. and Karen. They built their own home in Greece, New York with the help of many family members. Florence spent many hours alongside her husband building the house, and later, making the house a "home." Her working career continued as she joined Eastman Kodak Company working in the camera assembly area, where she retired after 25+ years of service. Most of her years at Kodak were working the evening shift in order to balance their family life, as Fred worked the day shift. It was important for them to be available to take care of their children's needs. Florence was very involved with her church, St. John's the Evangelist. She was an avid bowler and was in a women's bowling league as well as a couple's bowling league. She had many hobbies over the years such as calligraphy, cake decorating, and candy making. Florence and Fred also enjoyed many years of camping with family and friends. After retirement and all her children were married, Florence and Fred began the annual 'snowbird' trek to Florida where they spent their winters for several years. This continued until failing health brought them back to Rochester full time. Florence enjoyed many more years with her beloved husband until he passed away in 2000. She became a frequent lottery player and enjoyed playing the weekly game of Take Five. She especially enjoyed the scratch-off tickets and was an incredibly lucky player. Her largest prize was winning $7000 on a single scratch-off ticket! Florence thrived on the love and attention from all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was proud to be the matriarch of such a loving family - from her four children, to her grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Alex, Vala, Chris, Marissa, Fred III, Michael, Kaitlyn, and Madison, and her great-grandchildren, Justin, McKenzie, Sydney, Abby, JT, Noah and Nathan. She leaves a legacy of love, strength, determination, devotion to her husband and family, a strong sense of faith and a generous heart that we will always remember. She will truly be missed.
