Frances A. Homuth

April 3, 1937 ~ May 9, 2026

Born in: Hamlin, NY
Resided in: Rochester, NY

Frances A. Homuth, 89, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center. She is survived by her sister, Wanda De Fiore (Sue Yaniga, wife), her nephews, Thomas De Fiore-Schmidt (Adam), David Eads (Kayte), and nieces, Denise Eads and, Deanna Chavez (Brian); in addition, by dear friends Darlene Furda from Kendall High School and longtime friend Judy Wiser. She is predeceased, by parents Martin Carl John Homuth and Lydia Frances Ann Homuth (Wolf), and siblings, Paul Homuth (Rose), Madelyn Eads (Robert) and Barb Ferries, and many cousins.

Fran was born on April 3, 1937, in Hamlin, New York at home to a very German farming family that resided in Kendall, where she attended school. She later attended Rochester Business Institute (RBI) in the 1960s and subsequently graduated from Monroe Community College (MCC) in the 70s. Her career in accounting, computers, and payroll spanned decades and included Rochester Envelope, Burroughs Corp, Nylomold Corp, and Rochester Colonial. But her true passions in life included three simple things: travel, church and her devotion to God, and her family.

Fran believed that discovery only happens with experience, and she pursued all types of experiences throughout her life with that mantra in mind. She was a frequent theatergoer to the Stratford Festival in Canada, and she’s traveled to Mexico, France, and Italy, as well as to East Germany and the Soviet Union during the cold war years. She had convictions and opinions but was always open to expanding knowledge and one’s universe by actively engaging in the unknown and new opportunities, however far off the beaten path they lay. She was a devoted member of Hope Lutheran Church and a servant of God. Throughout her years in the church she served on committees, participated in the music program as part of the handbell choir and, also taught Sunday school both as a young woman in Hamlin and later at Hope Lutheran. Fran was a private person but was always openly confident about prayer and her faith that carried her through life’s challenges and lifted her up during times of celebration.

But, Fran’s heart always brought her back to loyalty and love for her family. When the operations division of her corporation moved out of state in the 80s, she was faced with the decision to move where she was sure to have a great career opportunity or, stay in Rochester. It was an easy decision for her, as Rochester is where her family was, so she remained. She was a supportive sister, a loving aunt, a proper and devoted daughter, and maintained a policy of ‘anything for her family’. In fact, much of her family at one point or another lived with Fran; her door was always open, her table was always set, and her hospitality was warm and endless. A stubborn and disciplined woman who kept a pristine home was also the first to invite in the crying baby, the family pet that tinkled on the wall, or the neighbor that would overstay a normal welcome. Her patience balanced her stubbornness, her humor to her stoicism, and her loving heart to her firm approach in life. Fran was a blend of beauty and daring, rectitude and adventurousness, stolid and excitement. Her life was full, yet simple, solitary but lovingly abundant.

She will be painfully missed but is now free of burden and has joined her family in paradise. Rest dear sister, dance and sing aunt, and find peace eternal. We love you… always and forever. Those who are remembered… live.

Services will be held at 10am on Saturday, May 23rd at Hope Lutheran Church, 1301 Vintage Ln in Greece, followed by brief graveside prayers at Lakeside Cemetery, 1651 Moscow Rd in Hamlin; friends and family are welcome to attend.
