Additional Information The following is from a biography created for Frances while she resided at the Rochester Friendly Home: Frances Ferro has been busy with her hands her whole life. When raising a family of three children on Rochester's west side, she was always cooking, baking cleaning. In the evenings, Frances would knit, crochet, and embroider to relax. These days, she keeps her hands busy with making and painting items as part of the Friendly Home's weekly ceramics group, as well as working in her room on craft projects such as painting wooden birdhouses. Frances is originally from Gaeta, Italy, which is located between Naples Rome. Even at a young age, she was a skilled seamstress who taught other young women how to sew. Frances an her children moved to Rochester from Italy in 1959 to join her husband who had found work there. Her primary focus was taking care of her family, but Frances' talent for sewing continued and she would sew and alter items for people she knew. She could copy and create designs without even using a pattern. Later, Frances made sweater sets and blankets for her four grandchildren, including a crib comforter to fit in with a grandchild's nursery theme of carousels. After a stroke left Frances without the use of her left hand, she took a liking to ceramics and painting. The Christmas tree shown is just one of many she made in ceramics class; Frances gave several others to relatives as holiday gifts. The sweaters pictured here are some examples of her wonderful talent for creating beautiful things. Frances was a former member of the Holy Apostles Rosary Society.
