Frank is survived by his children, Mary Kay (William) Philp Vincent (Paula) Provenzano; grandchildren, Andrea (Andy) Marron, Melissa Provenzano, Nicole Provenzano; great-grandaughter Sophia Rose Marron; sisters and brother, Mary Pignato, Rose Pozzanghera, Josephine Hurysz, Jennie Rossi, Laura Provenzano Dominic Provenzano; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
History
Frank Provenzano was born March 12, 1917 in Lucasboro, Pennsylvania. Frank was one of ten siblings. He was raised in Lucasboro, Pennsylvania and his family later moved to Rochester, NY. Frank attended Washington High. After Frank graduated high school, he was employed by E.C. Brown, manufacturing flamethrowers for the war effort. Kodak then employed Frank, where he worked in a darkroom slitting and perforating professional movie film on all three shifts. Frank retired from Kodak in 1976. Frank met Sophia in 1941 and they were married in 1952. They had a wonderful marriage and had two children, Mary Kay and Vincent. Frank and Sophia lived on Barcrest Drive in Greece, New York. Frank enjoyed his dog, Cleo. Frank also enjoyed smoking his pipe. Frank and his family attended Mother of Sorrows Parish. Frank spent his spare time working in his yard growing roses, which he won many awards for. Frank always made time to go fishing and spent weekends at his cottage in Sodus Bay. After Mary Kay and Vincent were grown, Frank and Sophia traveled to Toronto and Pennsylvania. Frank and Sophia enjoyed reading books together and spending time in their back porch. Sophia became ill with cancer in 1969. Sophia had years of remission, until 1985 when the cancer returned. Frank took care of her for the last six months of her life, until she died on June 23rd of 1986. Frank mourned Sophia`s death and visited her gravesite daily. Frank spent time reading and fishing. Frank enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and family members. He was known for his knowledge of history and geography. Frank was nicknamed the "professor" and "shorebird." He made his way around the shores of Lake Ontario checking on the water levels, fisherman and weather. Frank looked forward to dinner dates with his family. Frank enjoyed his dog Hilda. Frank began developing medical problems in 2000. He had lung cancer and congestive heart failure. Frank quit smoking the day he found out he had lung cancer. Frank then developed two staff infections after a five-way bypass surgery. Frank moved in with his son, Vincent, in 2001. Frank lived with Vincent`s family for three years. He then went to Shore Winds Nursing Home, where he resided for two and a half years. In September of 2006, Frank became a great grandfather. Sophia Rose was the sparkle of Frank`s eye. Frank became ill with pneumonia in December of 2006. Frank never rebounded and was placed on hospice January 10, 2007. Frank was transferred to St.Mary`s hospice unit on January 13, 2007 and passed away on Monday, January 15th at 4:33p.m. Frank was surrounded by his family as he took his last breaths. BARTOLOMEO PEROTTO Funeral Home, Inc., 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 Long Pond Rd.) where Frank's visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 7-9. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 9:30 AM at Our Mother of Sorrows Church, 5000 Mt. Read Blvd. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
