Gary Michael White, age 57, was born in Rochester, New York, on February 3, 1968, and passed away after a brief illness on December 9, 2025.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy and later worked for many years as a security guard. He was a man of strong values, quiet generosity, and a deeply kind heart. Though he lived simply, his life was full of passion, humor, and loyalty to the people and things he loved.
Gary had a lifelong love of trains, often talking about CSX and reminiscing about hearing the rumble of trains while growing up in North Chili. He was fascinated by planes and aviation, faithfully tracking flights for loved ones and researching aircraft in detail. His interests also included science, history, and a deep knowledge of the Bible and faith.
An avid outdoorsman and marksman, Gary loved firearms, shooting ranges, and especially target practice – delighting in the unmistakable “pling” of metal targets. He also loved summer lightning storms, the fiercer the better, and would excitedly alert family when a powerful storm was on the way.
Gary’s love of food was legendary. He was known for grilling impressive steaks and oversized burgers, enjoying steak and potatoes topped with his own buttery sauce made with fresh thyme. He famously made homemade horseradish – even when it required wearing a gas mask – and took pride in doing things his own way.
As a child, Gary was energetic and adventurous, spending countless hours playing street football, kick the can, and ghost in the graveyard with neighborhood friends. He loved football, break-dancing in the basement, and family trips to Darien Lake, where he introduced his younger sister to her first roller coaster – beginning a lifelong tradition as ride buddies whenever a new coaster opened.
Gary was a devoted Buffalo Bills fan, known for enthusiastically commenting during games and good-naturedly teasing when things went poorly. He especially enjoyed watching legendary quarterbacks get sacked. He also had a great appreciation for good whiskey, Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer each fall, and simple pleasures shared with those he loved.
He had a sharp, natural sense of humor – a true comedian at heart – with wit that came effortlessly. Gary lived simply, never drawn to social media or excess, preferring used cars and a straightforward life. He had a soft spot for cats and was always willing to help strays in need.
Gary was predeceased by his father, James D. White, and his mother, Virginia P. Bubel (White). He is survived by his siblings Donald J. White (Donna Goldseth), Ann M. Capitulik (Robert), Laurie A. White, and Cherie L. Amico (Stephen); his niece and nephews Robert White, Aaron White, Joshua Plumeri, Anthony Amico, and Ashley Amico (Salman Naseer); and his longtime friend James Chambers.
Above all, Gary was deeply loved and will be remembered for his kindness, intelligence, humor, curiosity, and the genuine care he showed for family and friends. His presence will be profoundly missed.
Because of his lifelong love for animals, especially cats, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to a cat rescue of your choice in lieu of flowers.
