Remembering Trudy
Trudy was born and raised in Yonkers, NY where she was a 1962 graduate of Yonkers High School of Commerce. In the early 1970s, she moved to Peekskill, NY eventually working as the Personnel Director for the City of Peekskill. Trudy relocated to Rochester, NY in the mid-80s where she worked for the Monroe County Dept. of Social Services as an Examiner. She went on to serve as the local Union representative, later becoming President of the Federation of Social Workers. Her continuous support of unions and working families led her to the Washington, DC area to work for the Communications Workers of America Headquarters as the Director, of the Education/Retiree Program for whom she worked until retirement.
After her retirement in 2009, Trudy divided her time between Rochester and her home in Royal Palm Beach, FL which she enjoyed sharing with those she loved especially her seven grandchildren and four great-granddaughters and their friends during Spring Break. She became everyone’s Nona. Her many titles included mother, mother-in-law, Nona, sister, aunt, and friend to name a few. She truly cherished each of these roles. She had a gift of making sure everyone knew they were special whether it be with a phone call out of the blue, a card with a beautiful note, a warm smile, or a helping hand. No matter if she knew you her whole life or for just a season, you were family to her.
Trudy knew the importance of showing up and making memories with those she loved. Whether it be the trip to Athens and Mykonos, Greece she planned with her three daughters, the countless soccer games of her grandchildren, prom pictures, graduations, recitals, award ceremonies, college drop-offs, birthday dinners, manicures and pedicures and shopping sprees, she was present. She loved her brothers and sister and their clam bakes, casino, and racetrack trips, and shopping. The beach was her happy place, often being the first one out there at sunrise to set up her chair. She loved card games especially Pay Me and Uno. She loved being a part of it all.
Trudy’s warmth, laughter, and loving presence will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
