Jean Cerone Life Story Jean was born on February 3, 1936, in Easton, PA. Her mother Mellie Weaver was a florist, her stepfather Wesley Weaver worked in banking, and her father John Gebhardt was a businessman who owned the Roycroft Inn in Aurora, NY. Jean had one sibling, Joan (Gebhardt) Myers. Family was always important to Jean, and she loved animals, especially her Siamese cats and her Lhasa Apso, Suki. When Jean grew up, she attended Ithaca College for 2 years as an English major. After school, she became a teacher's aide for BOCES working with children who have special needs. Jean also worked in the elementary and middle schools for both Greece and Gates. Jean met her husband of 64 years, Dick, at Ithaca College when she turned around to his desk behind her and took his pencil. A week later, Jean and Dick went on their first date out to eat. They married on September 13, 1958, in Easton, PA with a second reception here in Rochester, NY. Together the couple had four children: Rick, Rob, Chaz, and Carolyn. Jean loved being a coach's wife and attended almost every one of Dick's team's games. Jean was even featured in an article on life as a coach's wife. She went on to coach cheerleading for a few years, too. Jean attended every sporting event she could, watching her son and son-in-law coach her grandson on the football field. She never missed a concert, dance recital, or musical performance. Jean loved watching her family do what they love. She was a member of the Bridge Club and attended the John Knox Church. Jean formed cherished friendships with her ladies from the Bridge Club as well as numerous other close friends. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed golfing, floating in the pool, reading, and bird watching. She and her family took vacations to the beach, since being on the ocean was her favorite place to be. They spent every Easter in either Florida or Myrtle Beach - always taking a road trip instead of flying. Her last family vacation to the beach was to the Outer Banks. Jean loved all animals and knew every type of bird or deer passing through the backyard. The deer would almost eat out of her hand! She loved the theater, especially opera, and would travel to NYC to see the musicals playing there. Most of all, though, she cherished the time she spent with her 4 children and spouses, 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. For many years Jean looked forward to hosting the holidays and entertaining for her family. Jean's legacy is her family, those dearest to her heart. Though she will be greatly missed, she is finally free and at peace.
