Remembering Jeanne~Jeanne M. Maira passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, faith, service, and unwavering perseverance. Born on November 22, 1947, in Hornell, New York, Jeanne was the beloved daughter of Clair and Althea Kelley. She grew up in the Angelica school system, forming friendships and values that would remain with her throughout her life.
A bright and determined student, Jeanne attended SUNY Geneseo, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics. It was right after college that she met the love of her life, Mariano “Mike” Maira, at a college party. Their connection was immediate and lasting. Jeanne and Mike were married on June 5, 1971, in Rochester, New York, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span 54 devoted years. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and deep commitment to one another. They truly did everything together, sharing countless adventures and treasured moments, including family trips to Disney World, visits to Toronto, and a special trip to Las Vegas to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary.
Jeanne worked at Kodak as a Systems Analyst, applying her sharp analytical mind and dedication to her work. Yet her greatest passion was always her family and her faith. A parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Jeanne lived her beliefs through quiet acts of service, compassion, and steadfast devotion to those around her.
Jeanne and Mike raised three children-Christopher, David, and Linda-who were the center of her world. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who took immense joy in supporting and encouraging her family. Her grandchildren, Nathan Johanneman and Alex Maira, were among her greatest blessings, and she delighted in attending their activities and celebrating their achievements.
Jeanne appreciated life’s simple joys. She was an avid reader who enjoyed card games, board games, and watching game shows. She loved gathering with family, traveling, visiting the casino, and attending baseball games. No matter the activity, what mattered most to Jeanne was being surrounded by the people she loved.
Throughout her life, Jeanne demonstrated remarkable strength and resilience. Later in life, she received two transplants at Strong Memorial Hospital – a heart generously donated by Jared Bifulco and a kidney graciously provided by her son, Christopher. These experiences reflected both her enduring strength and the extraordinary love within her family.
Jeanne maintained lifelong friendships that were deeply meaningful to her. Two cherished childhood friends, Nancy Tucker and Marie Smith, remained close throughout the years, as did her beloved college friend, Carol Hyde. Her relationships were marked by loyalty, warmth, and genuine care for others.
Music also played a special role in Jeanne’s life. She began the family’s legacy of trumpet playing, passing on that passion through generations.
Those who knew Jeanne would describe her in five simple but powerful words: loving, funny, faithful, strong, and positive. She inspired others through her perseverance, her quiet acts of service, and the deep love she gave so freely to family and friends.
Jeanne leaves behind a strong and enduring family built upon love, faith, and resilience. She personified a life well lived, touching the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will live on in the countless lives she shaped and the love she shared.
She will be deeply and dearly missed.
