Joseph Cerone
Joseph Cerone
January 8, 1953 ~ January 8, 2019
Rochester- Joseph passed away suddenly January 9, one day after his 66th birthday and after a life where work brought him fulfillment. His several perfect attendance citations and positive comments from bosses and colleagues bear this out. Over the course of his life he worked in environmental services, security, residential care, education and Goodwill Industries. Joseph was a graduate of The College at Brockport with a BS in Education where he demonstrated academic excellence. In addition, he attended the Berkeley School of Music in Boston to study music composition. He was an accomplished musician who played several instruments. In his free time he could be found puttering in his garden or cooking up a high calorie dessert creation. Uncle Joey was the fun uncle who could be counted on to show up with candy for the kids and to incite a wrestling match or other noisy activity that delighted his youngest great nephews in particular. He was a devoted son and brother who will be missed.
Joseph is predeceased by his father James Cerone and survived by his 105 year old mother Felicia Cerone. In addition, he is survived by his sister Mary Ann Cropo (Ralph) and his brother James (Sharon); several nieces nephews. Finally, he is survived by the large extended Cerone family, mostly residing in Rochester, now numbering over 150 people and descended from grandparents who emigrated from Italy at the turn of the 20th century.
Joseph's mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, January 25, 9:30am at St. Lawrence Church, 1000 North Greece Rd. Private interment in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and in memory of Joseph, donations may be sent to Goodwill of the Finger Lakes, 422 S. Clinton Avenue, Rochester, NY 14620, in Joseph's memory.
