Centennial, CO: formerly of Rochester, NY. April 28, 2013. Survived by his wife, Monika DiLella; children, Joey Sophia DiLella; parents, Joseph Catherine (Kati) DiLella; brother, David DiLella; several family members and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday from 1-5 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd). Joe's funeral mass will be celebrated Monday 11 AM at Good Shepherd Church, 3318 E Henrietta Rd, Henrietta. Burial is private. Donations may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 in Joe's memory.
Joe was born and raised in Rochester, NY. He graduated from McQuaid High School in 1986. While there, he participated in outdoor track and played soccer. He went on to earn his Bachelors Degree in Communications at St. John Fisher college, where he also was a goalie for the hockey team.
Upon graduating from college, he began working at the Democrat Chronicle newspaper as a sports journalist. After moving to Colorado, he was employed as a Logistics Supervisor at Waste Management. In 2003, he was introduced to Monika who would become his wife in 2004 in a ceremony in Colorado. In August 2005, they had a church wedding in Hungary with her family who resides there.
Joe played hockey at Lakeshore with the Gamecocks. He was competitive, loved to dine out at nice restaurants, was a wine aficionado, and liked hiking and running.
An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Joe was a season ticket holder. He also liked the Pittsburgh Penguins and the NY Islanders. He was very athletic and enjoyed sports.
Family and friends would best describe Joe as someone who always saw the good in others and as a man who was social, generous, family oriented, grateful, romantic, charismatic, intelligent, well-liked, and had a great sense of humor. Joe always had a quest for knowledge.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
