He was married to his best friend Mary Beth who has supported him and loved him for 20 years. Joe was a beautiful soul who devoted himself to those around him and touched every person he met. While Joe had no biological children of his own his three step children, Stephen, Alisa, and McKenzie, were always referred to as "his children" and he did everything he could to make sure they were happy and loved. His grandchildren Jen, Billy, and Kristina were the light of his life and he loved attending all of their various events and activities. Nothing was more important to Joe than knowing his friends and family were taken care of and loved. Mary Beth and Joe's dogs, Tobey and Cooper, were the apple of his eye and he always referred to them as his "boys." He could never be out of the house for too long because he had to get home to "take care of the boys." Joe's hobbies were fishing and cooking, both of which were learned through his grandparents. Many special memories were shared through his hobbies, including spending time with his dad at Sunny Banks. He was a member of the Rochester Bassmasters for over 30 years. Through them, he was able to touch many lives and teach many children how to fish. For many people Joe's cooking was some of the best food they had ever eaten. He was a gracious host and wonderful entertainer at any event he hosted. The Thousand Islands were Joe's favorite place on earth. He got to do all the things he loved there, fish, cook, spend time on the water, and with family and friends. There was no where else on Earth he felt more at peace. Joe fought for many years with a bad heart condition. He always beat the odds, becoming a medical mystery. Joe's family referred to him as the Energizer Bunny. His legacy is, to be kind to everyone you meet. While Joe may be gone, his spirit lives on in all of us. We love hearing everyone's stories on how Joe touched their lives, so please, don't stop telling them.
