Survived by his loving wife of 60 years Joan (Mattia) Lacagnina; his children, Jim (Mary-Jo) Lacagnina, Ann (Richard Zylka) Lacagnina, Michael (Karen Burwell) La¬cagnina, Mary Jo (Craig) Smith; his 8 grandchildren, Chris¬tine Laura Maguire, Carra James Andrew Lacagnina, Kevin and David Smith; his brother Michael (Joanne) Lacagnina; brothers-in-law, Joseph Mangione, Joe (Beverly) Mattia; sisters-in-law, Marian Wallace, Joan Mattia; many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Joe's visitation will be Wednesday 1-3 6-8 at the Funeral Home, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 Long pond Rd.). Joe's Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church, 2400 W. Ridge Rd. followed by his internment in Holy Sepulchre Cem¬etery. Joe grew up with his parents, James Bella and siblings, Christine, Lee, Rosemary Michael on Edgemere Dr. It was this time in his life where he began his love of being on the water.
Joe graduated High School from Aquinas Institute. He received his Bachelor's Degree from RIT. While at RIT Joe's hard work paid off, he graduated in the top 10 of his class.
He worked very hard and was dedicated. He spent 38 years working as a postal clerk for the US postal Service. During that 38 years he also worked for the Greece School District driving school bus.
Joe's family began when he was introduced to his future wife Joan Mattia through mutual friends. They were later married at Holy Rosary Church on September 5, 1955. Their family grew with the addition of four children, Jim, Ann, Michael Mary Jo.
Joe's family meant everything to him. He was the proud father to 8 grandchildren, His grand kids will always remember long summer days spent with grandpa at the pool. He always looked forward to family time spent together. He enjoyed treating his whole family out to dinner. He most enjoyed spending family time with family on Lake Ontario.
Joe could best be described as: quiet, intellectual, hardworking, selfless, traditional in his values and having a dry sense of humor that was always spot on. He had a photographic memory of geographical data and he taught math to his children.
He enjoyed the outdoors. He liked: swimming, skating, rowing, hiking, fishing and gardening. He was an avid reader of history books. He enjoyed several different types of music to include, classical, big band jazz. TV shows that caught his interest included, Jeopardy, sports and documentaries.
He was loved by his family and will be greatly missed.
