Josephine was born to Joseph Rose LaCava on November 11, 1917 in Rochester, NY and grew up on Oak Street and Campbell Street. She was one of 7 children. She began working at E.P. Reed Shoe Factory at the age of 15 and stayed until 1951. Her boss, Mr. Taylor, was very disappointed when Jo quit to get married. He commented "all my good workers leave, and the bad ones stay". Jo also worked part-time at the family flower shop, The Lake Florist. This is where she met the love of her life, her future husband, Tony Moscaritolo. Tony would catch the bus outside of the flower shop where he would see Josephine working inside. His sister, Mary, told him to go inside and buy something as a way of meeting Jo. They began dating and were married on the Fourth of July in 1951, a Wednesday, since this was the only time Tony could get off from work at Weider's Hardware. They first lived on Austin Street before moving to Lyell Road in Gates where they raised their 3 children, Daniel, Rosie, and Joanne. Every year, Josephine and Tony took the kids on a family vacation to various points of interest such as Enchanted Forest, The North Pole, Wasaga Beach, Villa Roma, and in later years, to the Poconos where Dave Rosie had a time share. Tony and Jo also went on cruises and enjoyed trips to Hawaii and other exotic locations with the National Association of Public Accountants. Josephine was also a member of the St. Theodore Rosary Society where she also volunteered as a playground monitor. According to Jo's grandchildren, she was the best checkers and jacks player they have ever seen. After Tony's death in 2001, Josephine lived with Joanne for 3 years, then spent 3 years at the Rochester Presbyterian Home receiving excellent care. Her final 6 1/2 years were spent at Penfield Place Nursing Home where she touched many people with her sweet disposition. Josephine will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
