Judith B. Wiater, age 81, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She is survived by her three children: Ellen (John) Stubbe, Geoff (Julia) Wiater and Susan (Darrell) Platz; nine grandchildren Jon, Kyle Jason Stubbe, Anna Maria Wiater, and Nate, Paige, Ethan Chloe Platz; one great-grandson Jonny Stubbe; a brother Terry (Carol) Brown; two cousins: Kent White and Kate Pike; several nieces and nephews. Judy's life story will be shared during her visitation, Thursday, February 27th, 4-8 PM at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane (between 390 Long Pond Rd.). Her funeral mass will be celebrated, Friday, February 28th, 11:30 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 3003 Dewey Ave., immediately followed by her burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Humane Society at Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Rd., Fairport, NY 14450 or to School of the Holy Childhood, 100 Groton Parkway, Rochester, NY 14623 in Judy's memory. Judy, as she was known to her family and friends, was born Judith Mary Brown on November 2, 1938 in Rochester, NY to Leon Richard Brown and Helen Marie (White) Brown. Raised in Irondequoit, on Pleasant Way, she enjoyed all the fun things little girls of her generation did: sledding on Buds Hill, Girl Scouts, going to the movies at the Hub and also playing with her life-long friend, Carol. She enjoyed summer visits to her Uncle George and Aunt Erva in Washington, DC where Uncle George was stationed in the US Army. Judy and her brother enjoyed the benefits of having both grandmothers live with their family for their entire up bringing. A cradle Catholic, Judy attended Catholic school her entire youth, first at St. Salome's primary school and then Our Lady of Mercy High School. Upon graduation she attended Miss McCarthy's secretarial school and soon after was employed by Eastman Kodak Company where she worked for over 30 years. Judy raised 3 children and was an extremely proud mother. She supported, cheered for, and insisted that all three children graduate from college; her children are grateful to her for this. She loved all of her family dearly and as each child married, she said that she had no "in-laws" as they were ALL her children. Generous to a fault and often feisty, there was never a dull moment with her around. Upon retirement from Eastman Kodak Company in 2001, Judy spent time traveling with her family. Her visits to France and the Grand Canyon were very special to her. She was an avid reader, having read every Agatha Christie novel (and most more than once) and accumulated a substantial library. Her other love was her beloved Siamese cats, having owned several throughout her life. She will always be fondly remembered for her love of shopping, too. Judy donated her time at Craig Hill Elementary school, having volunteered there for the last 10 years and always found ways to support The School of the Holy Childhood, a Catholic charity near and dear to her heart. She was a devoted mother and a doting grandmother. We now have a very special guardian angel always watching over us.
