Additional Information Devoted to her family throughout her long life, June was a woman of courage, strength, caring and compassion. After her mother died when she was only two years old, June was raised by her loving aunt and uncle as a full member of their family. She grew up on Dix Street, in the midst of the Depression, and attended Jefferson High School during WWII. A dedicated student, she wrote a prize-winning essay on American democracy and was selected to represent her school in a city-wide competition. After graduating, June worked at Kodak's Hawkeye plant contributing to the war effort as did so many other women at that time. It was at this time that she met her husband, Ted DeWelles, a U.S. Air Corps veteran, whom she married in April 1945. Together they raised four children, living in Rochester's 10th Ward where June took on the role of housewife and devoted mother. She was involved in her church (Sacred Heart Cathedral) and in later years was an active member of Holy Cross Church. As her children grew older, June decided in the early 1960s to return to work. She was an employee at Kodak Park for 20 years, retiring in 1984. During her long and productive retirement, she pursued many interests including swimming, walking, shopping, collecting, visiting friends and spending lots of time with her children in Rochester and her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. June loved people - especially her immediate and extended family. She will be greatly missed by those who knew, loved and respected her. The family would like to thank the staff at Rochester General for their care and kindness during June's illness.
