Katie passed away peacefully on December 5, 2024, at the age of 27. Katie was born with a rare genetic disorder eventually diagnosed as Leigh’s Disease. She defied all odds, day after day and year after year. Katie deeply touched the hearts & souls of those who came to know her. She was the epitome of strength & grace in the face of adversity. Katie impressed upon others the importance of perspective, acceptance, humility, and gratitude. She reminded us daily to maintain hope & faith in humanity.

Katie was predeceased by her grandparents, Charles Whitmarsh, Marcia Bailey, & Thomas Tangen. Katie is survived by her parents, Bruce & Michelle Whitmarsh; her brother, Ryan Whitmarsh; grandparents, Barbara & Donald George, Tom & Teena Fitzroy, and James & Nancy Bailey; uncle, Michael (Cheri) Whitmarsh; aunt, Dyann Blum; cousins, Anthony (Nikki) Whitmarsh, Nicole (Will) Storrs, Kevin Blum, Kyle Blum & Erin Blum. Katie is also survived by her extra special family of caregivers, Kim Difrancesca, Heidi Wisniewski, Sue Eberwein, Lisa LaVeck, Jenna Cooper and Janelle Conley.
Katie’s visitation will be held Saturday, December 14th from 1-3 pm at the funeral home, 1411 Vintage Lane. A celebration of life will be held privately at the time of the family’s convenience. Memorial donations may be directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in her memory https://wish.org/newyork
