Remembering Libby Volonino Libby Volonino was born on January 2, 1930 in Rochester, NY to parents Concetta and Joseph Loria. Concetta was a seamstress and Joseph was a mason. Both Loria parents had traveled from Italy to the United states at a very young age from Caltanissetta, Sicily. Together, they instilled in their children the values of hard work, getting an education, and loving their family. Concetta was Libby's role model, and her example of determination and love made a lasting impression on her daughter. The Loria family also included older brother, Russell, and younger sisters, Angie and Linda. As a child, Libby attended Holy Family Elementary School and went on to attend Madison High School. She began working right after graduating high school and became a teller at Lincoln Rochester Bank. She later worked at her sons' grade school in Irondequoit and ran a ceramic studio, L&L Ceramics, with her sister Linda for many years. Anthony and Libby met while sharing a dance at a wedding. They fell in love and eventually had their own wedding at Holy Family Church with a lovely reception in downtown Rochester at the Powers Hotel. Their family grew with the addition of two sons, Tom and Jim. The job Libby enjoyed most was that of being a mother and wife. Libby was a talented baker and loved sharing her signature cheesecakes and lemon pound cake with the whole family. She enjoyed crocheting, too, and took great joy in gifting thoughtful presents to those she loved. Libby lived for her husband Nini, her sons Jimmy and Tommy, and her granddaughter, Melissa. In turn, Nini adored his wife, as did Jimmy, Tommy and Melissa. Libby's favorite thing to do was sit at the lake house that she and Nini owned in the summer. She would start every morning by having a warm cup of coffee with her husband while watching the waves reach the shore. In the wintertime, Libby had a passion for decorating for the holidays. She and her son Jimmy would always make the house feel special for Christmas. Libby led her life through God, she was kind, gentle, patient and loving - her family and her faith were her world. Libby was a sweet and peaceful soul. She brought kindness and love to her entire family, and this is her most lasting legacy. Libby was treasured by friends, too; with Betty and George Atkinson, Mary D'Ambrosio, Rita Bianchi, and Gail (her hairdresser) being some of the closest. Libby enjoyed the company of her canine companions, too, especially Frenchie the poodle (Northfield Rd) and Molly the beagle (Essla Dr). As her family reflects, "In her final moments, she was surrounded by the love of her family... and opened her eyes for her son Jim. She will be greatly missed and will live in our hearts forever."
