Lutz ‘Peter’ Sahmel, age 85, of Greece (Rochester), New York, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025. He was a devoted family man, a U.S. Navy veteran, and a longtime General Motors employee known for his kindness and generosity.

Born on June 1, 1940, in Sindelfingen, Germany, Lutz was 14 years old when he and his family emigrated to the United States in 1954. They settled in Rochester, NY, where he continued his education. In 1958, he joined the U.S. Navy and later served in the Naval Reserve, retiring as Chief Quartermaster in 1995.

Lutz also enjoyed a 35-year career with General Motors Corporation, retiring in 1999. Known for his dedication and strong work ethic, he balanced his professional career with his military service.

A devout Catholic, Lutz was a long-standing congregant of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus, where he lived out the values of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.

Lutz is survived by his loving wife, Sue Ellen (Schmidt) Sahmel; daughters Lisa (Larry) Testa, Heidi Crimmins, Bethann (Richard) Barcomb; grandchildren Abigail (Michael) Horn, Alexis Bozza, Sara Bozza, Jake Peter Testa, Kaitlyn Barcomb, Alex Testa, Jennell Testa, and Joey Testa; great- grandchildren Margaret ‘Maggie’ Barcomb, Cooper & Jack Horn, Jameson & Jessilyn Parsons; brother Rainer (Jane) Sahmel and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews.
