Maria Antonietta Orsola "Toni" Orlati Rochester: April 22, 2016, at the age of 62. She is pre-deceased by her father, Leopoldo "Lino" Orlati. She is survived by her daughter Veronica Ikeshoji-Orlati (Tom Walsh); mother Raffaella Orlati; husband Hideomi Ikeshoji; dear friends, Dave Kittredge Jon Flint; and cousins and extended family members in Italy. Toni's visitation will be Thursday from 1-3 PM at the Funeral Home of Bartolomeo and Perotto, 1411 Vintage Lane (Between 390 Long Pond Rd.). Her Interment will be in the Cemetery of Borello, in Italy. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Humane Society @ Lollypop Farm, 99 Victor Rd., Fairport, NY 14450 in Toni's memory. Toni was born on February 27, 1954 in Borello, Comune di Cesena, Italy. During her youth, she had much aptitude in many different subjects at school, including Ancient Greek, Astronomy, History, Latin, Mathematics, and Physics. She excelled at tennis, and would officiate tennis matches through her years as a graduate student in the US. Toni obtained her Diploma di Maturità at the Liceo Classico "Vincenzo Monti" di Cesena. She earned her Laurea and Laurea Specialistica in Physics from the Università di Bologna, and continued on to obtain her Ph.D. in Astronomy and Astrophysics from Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, OH). After completing her Ph.D., Toni taught at a number of universities and colleges across the country, as well as tutoring many students privately. Her longest tenure was at John Carroll University (University Heights, OH), and she also taught at Minnesota State University Moorhead College (Moorhead, MN), Cuyahoga Community College (Cleveland, OH), Hobart and William Smith Colleges (Geneva, NY), and Monroe Community College (Rochester, NY). She tutored and mentored many students through the Rochester City School District Home Hospital Teachers program and private organizations. On January 5, 1984 Toni married Hideomi Ikeshoji, a retired Professor of Mathematics and Engineering at the Hiroshima Institute of Technology (Hiroshima, Japan). She had one daughter, Veronica Ikeshoji-Orlati, a Ph.D. candidate in Classical Archaeology at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville, VA). Toni adopted and cared for a number of stray cats, including Zeusie (deceased), Rosso Volpino (deceased), and Kallisto (living). She moved to Rochester, NY in 1999 to help her daughter pursue her musical education at the Eastman School of Music. Toni was incredibly passionate about classical music and learned to play the cello as an adult. She particularly enjoyed Baroque and Classical music, especially J.S. Bach and W.A. Mozart. Toni loved to read and enjoyed collecting books on a wide range of subjects. She was also very active in the revivification of the 19th Ward Community in Rochester, NY. Toni was described as fiercely loyal, independent, and uncompromising. She was exceptionally intelligent and highly opinionated but was also willing to listen fully and thoughtfully to opposing ideas, arguments, and perspectives.
