Mark Franus, 64, of Rochester, NY, passed away unexpectedly on July 4, 2024. Mark was a cherished uncle, brother, and son, and a lifelong Rochestarian. Growing up on Norton Street, Mark's life was intertwined with the Rochester Red Wings. He spent countless days and nights at Silver Stadium, captivated by the game and its people, especially Bobby Grich, Cal Ripken Jr., and Joe Altobelli, Rochester's "Mr. Baseball." Today the walls of his home office, rich with Red Wings and Orioles memorabilia, are a visual testament to his lifelong appreciation for the game. After graduating from Franklin High School, Mark followed in his father's footsteps, and became a skilled toolmaker. He built tools for Ray-Ban sunglasses at Bausch & Lomb. Mark also contributed to Spectrum Tool and Machine, Davenport Machine, and most recently Brinkman Precision. He retired just this year, ready for new adventures. Mark led a spirited and competitive social life. In early adulthood he enjoyed many Corvette summers. Later he packed his days with golf, sports, and socializing at the Polish American Club. He had a special bond with his dog and loyal companion Jay. Mark also took great care of his home and yard, reflecting his meticulous nature. Mark was an always-on source of positivity and encouragement in supporting friends and family. He felt great pride watching his nieces and nephews grow, and he often attended their soccer, softball, and baseball games. Mark leaves behind a legacy of friendship, and his curious, spirited stories will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed. Mark is predeceased by his parents, Edward S. and Helen (Ostrowski), his brother Edward J., and his sister Lynn (Finley). He is survived by sister-in-law; Gwen (Nichols), nephews and nieces Keith and Jaimi (Dean), Nathan and Sara (Cannon), Frank and Kristen Zubor (Finley), and Noel and Stacia (Ortwein). His great nieces and nephews are Kender, Beatrix, Geffen, Elek, Rex, Stella, and Jackson. A celebration of Mark's life will be held on Saturday, August 10, from 3pm to 6pm, at the Polish American Citizens Club of Rochester, located at 385 Weaver St. Rochester, NY 14621.
